The project of the new “Mies Memorial Library” is an opportunity to confront and measure oneself with the teachings of Mies, which characterizes the IIT Campus.
The module and the grid become the fixed point of every reflection and they represent constraint and opportunity that guide its development.
The “MM_L2” with its “L”-shaped system reads and interprets the existing, placing itself and anchoring within the grid, binding to it through physical and visual alignments.
A large podium that looks towards the Crown Hall unites and connects the two arms of the “L” becoming its fulcrum, thus creating a new spatial conformation for the Campus.
