THE NEW BAUHAUS 2021 – FRAMEWORK PROJECT AIMS TO PAY HOMAGE TO THE ORIGINAL SCHOOL WHILE ADDRESSING HEAD ON THE GLOBAL ISSUES OF TODAY. ARCHITECTURE CAN INTEGRATE WITH ALL DISCIPLINES, ARTS AND TECHNOLOGIES TO IMPROVE THE SPACES WE EAT, WORK AND PLAY IN. THE PROJECT INCLUDES RESIDENCES, HIGH BAY WORKSHOPS, AN AUDITORIUM, EXHIBITION SPACE, CLASSROOMS AND A WELNESS CENTER THAT HAS SPACES FOR NOURISHMENT, SELF-CARE AND MINDFULNESS. THIS (IN)COMPLETE PROGRAM WILL ALLOW FOR USERS OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS TO GATHER, LEARN AND SHARE IN A SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE ENVRIONMENT.
THE CENTRAL THEMES OF THIS PROJECT – FRAME, RAMP AND PARK – PLAY TOGETHER ON THE SITE WHERE A FLOWING LANDSCAPE TRAVELS THROUGH AND PAST EACH CAMPUS BUILDING. A GRAND RAMP, ACCESSED FROM THE NORTH (TRAIN STATION) SIDE OF THE SITE ALLOWS STUDENTS AND VISITORS TO TRAVERSE ALL LEVELS OF THE CAMPUS CREATING CHANGING PERSPECTIVES OF EACH BUILDING WITH EVERY STEP TRAVELLED. AT THE TOP OF THE RAMP, ACCESS TO THE GREEN ROOF ALLOWS FOR 360 VIEWS OF DESSAU, , EVOLVING VIEWS OF THE INTERIOR PARK LANDSCAPE AND ENTRY INTO MAIN BUILDING POINTS. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROJECT MAINLY CONSISTS OF CONCRETE AND HEAVY LUMBER SOLUTIONS THAT PROMOTE THE THEME OF THE EXPOSED FRAME. THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS THE BUILDING’S STRUCTURES REVEAL THEMSELVES AND CAN BE OBSERVED IN TWO WAYS. FIRST, THAT THE PROJECT IS ON-GOING, NOT A FINISHED SOLUTION, BUT A PROCESS UNDERWAY – RESPECTING THE LONG WORK AHEAD FOR US AS A GLOBAL SOCIETY. SECONDLY, IT CAN BE VIEWED AS IF THE BUILDINGS ARE PULLING AWAY, EXPOSING THE FRAME, AS IF TO RETURN THE LUMBER TO THE EARTH AND ITS INHABITANTS. THIS MIMMICKS A NATURAL INHALE AND EXHALE OF THOUGHTS AND IDEAS TO BE PRODUCED HERE. THE FRAMES CAN SERVE IN SEVERAL WAYS SUCH AS OUTDOOR EXHIBITION OR CLASSROOM SPACES, MOCK-UP CONSTRUCTION STRUCTURES FOR ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS AND ALSO AS FUTURE EXPANSION SPACE FOR PROGRAMS THAT COULD HELP SOLVE OUR GLOBAL ISSUES OF HEALTHCARE, SOCIAL EQUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY. AS THE ORIGINAL BAUHAUS DID OVER 100 YEARS AGO, OUR GENERATION MUST FRAME THE FUTURE.
