The Bauhaus Campus 2021 is located in the industrial area of Dessau, Germany. The proposal is to connect the train station (concentrating different cities) to our site’s corner through a passage (pedestrian concentration).

The general morphology sought to reinterpret the traditional Bauhaus, thus conforming a horizontal typology, a rational assembly of prisms, an interior / exterior interaction and no main facade; meanwhile having a dialogue with the Bauhaus Museum through clear and simple volumes.

The Campus is located closest to the north end to obtain an urban square with good orientation providing sunlight to the Bauhaus. The streets lines are the main axis of the architecture (congregating pedestrians), these work the prisms parallelly and perpendicularly. The Bauhaus also takes the lines of the train to generate a new image and function as a sound barrier.

The public program is related to the ground level and the urban square to congregate the city, activating the area with different outdoor and indoor recreational activities, as will the outdoor amphitheater, indoor auditorium, outdoor and indoor exhibition, rest area, track. bicycles, indoor and outdoor gym, cafe and book sector. The institutional-private program begins at the first level and has a sub-square with unique access for students to carry out leisure and relaxation activities.

The user-context, Bauhaus 2021 offers comprehensive education, that is, education in educational skills (classes and workshops), but also provides the space to serve as a catharsis, to release tensions, conflicts and problems due to the close link between private life and work / design. Therefore a pedagogical workshop is proposed to obtain sensory experiences for the search for tangible experience (music, theater, meditation and breathing) .The auditorium (covered) or amphitheater (uncovered) function as an exhibition of these skills. I also propose physical activity as a pedagogical tool, therefore there is  a bicycle track, an indoor and outdoor gym.

Based on the context-program, Bauhaus 2021 has  two access points, the main access enters the exhibition visitors and functions as a hall and library to generate constant use. The exhibition is in the lower-level for lighting control and is linked to the auditorium. A secondary access communicates to public activities in the square (covered gym and cafe).

Circulation and services are concentrated into 2 cores at the ends and on all levels to avoid large horizontal paths.

The material workshop has 2 sectors, a machinery and loud sector and interdisciplinary sector to create new crafts, and observe each other’s disciplines (carpentry, metallurgy, painting, ceramics and textiles).

The classes have an interactive profile based on circular tables to promote debate. Linked to the faculty there is a debating space and a silent space to “let imagination fly”.

Each residence is accessed from an exterior walkway and has a double height parting the living spaces (kitchen, dining room and living room on the ground floor, and the bedroom on the upper floor).

The facades, both, the institutions and the residences, is perforated metal which works with the sun path, it closes at greater solar exposure (energy saving) and opens in the best orientation. Vertical fins on the ground floor allow lighting control, heat control and thus energy savings.

Sustainability within the Bauhaus 2021 has its presence in green roofs, solar panels, collection of rainwater for irrigation and sanitaries, urban cultivation of fruits and vegetables in the residential sector and promoting the use of bicycles as local transportation in town.
