After choosing Site 2 and conducting further analysis, the concept idea came to the natural conclusion that planning the building entirely underground was most suitable and honorable.
The main goal of the design aims at preserving the earthly footprint of Mies’s unbuilt project on-site and organizing all of the library’s functional units around the untouched earthly mass. The earth is showcased behind glass, making it an active part of the interior, reminding visitors of Mies’s heritage.
At the same time, visitors are given the opportunity to continue to use the library’s roof as a square, promenade or for hosting numerous events on-site.
At the building’s entrance, an amphitheatrical seating has been provided for attending lectures, exhibitions, watching movies, performances, etc.
The building has a technical room as well, used for purifying rain water and further using it, as well as turning sunlight into electrical charge from solar panels.
