The proposal for Bauhaus Campus investigates about how to approach in continuity with such an usable past. From this starting point, Bauhaus immersive and convivial attitude towards cultural production and its attention for public become the fundamentals for the project.
The first act of the strategy is an exhibition path, the Bauhaus Walk. Starting from the master’s houses and arriving to the Museum, this promenade involves all Bauhaus buildings.
As second act, the strategy provides a park, preserving and enhancing the preexisting natural condition of the area. Furthermore, this park activates the axe Central Station – Alter Rauchertung, a public observation tower: in this preexisting building, the project sets the café.
Through this double urban aim, the scheme acts like a living part of a system made of spread buildings, and not just like an object.
The Campus is composed by three buildings, facing the park. They stand according to specific directions which handle urban tasks and solve critical conditions.
The central building is dedicated to cultural production. The three lavels are conceived as testing grounds, polyvalent spaces to call in question the culture, to learn and unlearn, to demolish and build.
The south building hosts the exhibition. It provides a double height porch crossed by the Bauhaus Walk.
The north building hosts the House of the Students, with common areas, facilities and dorms.
