Feels like Nature

For this project we applied 3 main elements of the Bauhaus which are pure and clean volumes, a continuous glass facade which gives a spatial richness and finally the application of pillars that support the entire volume generating a free ground floor, with these elements and some incorporated trees we strengthen the main idea of a forest, since our base is to reflect the nature of Dessau. These structures have different densities that generate a route to guide us to the public area that connects all the project, generating an interaction between the passing and permanent users. For this design, we studied the forests and water flows of the city, to give our visitors and students an experience of a nature space. With these points the project “Feels like nature” – Campus Bauhaus 2021 was born.

The site is a green square in Dessau, crossed by a crosswalk where people and cyclists can go through

The project develops on 3 sides of the site, adjusting it to Dessau´s urban plot, letting the center to public space

The morphology is pulled up by pillars, to liberate the green area, but it also simulates crossing an artificial forest to get into a natural one

The residential area has a staggered shape, this provides a visual continuity between green space and the hanging volume

In the exhibition, classrooms and workshop areas the modulation allows to create voids in which trees and structure can break through the interior, providing spaces to relax

Some of these modules are flying out of the facade, this in order to show as a showcase, what´s happening inside, but also to enjoy views of Dessau

The vertical circulations are centralized at the corners in order to create meeting spaces, but avoiding them to become passage places they were combined with a cafe, a receiver and an auditorium

Intervening in such a natural place, nature couldn’t be avoided, that’s why it takes its place in the public space, which was designed with a hierarchical water mirror, natural and artificial walk paths and bleachers to convert this campus in one of Dessau´s principal attractions
