MIES MEMORIAL LIBRARY BETWEEN VERSATILITY AND INNOVATION.
A. COMPOSITION:
From a basic block, a simple and orthogonal volume is generated based on a grid designed for the structure, thus keeping a golden and volumetric ratio with the existing buildings.
B. PROPORTION:
The two modules are related by perimeter pergolas that generate outdoor reading spaces, while encapsulating the central courtyard, which is in proportion to the other modules
C. BALANCE:
The final result is a balanced building both aesthetically and functionally, respecting the architectural foundations of Mies Van Der Rohe while innovating at the level of recreational spaces.
D. AREA:
LIBRARY AREA: 2.268 M2 OUTDOOR AREA: 5.875 M2
E. ZONING:
The spatial organization within the modules integrates on the first levels of each one, spaces such as the auditorium, toilets, research posts, administration, and photocopier room. The spaces that required more area are located on the second levels of each module, such as shelving, the Mies collection and the reading stations. These latest are also distributed around the perimeter of the metal pergola that surrounds the library.
F. CONCEPT:
The primary concept is versatility and movement contrasted with the immobile and timeless structure, for which the spaces are given different possibilities of being, and the user different possibilities of staying.
This is achieved through different means: 1. folding membranes that allow the central courtyard to have a temporary cover where recreational activities can be carried out. 2. versatile furniture design to moves and changes according to the needs of the user. 3. multifunctional spaces, such as coworking and auditorium that have the necessary flexibility to provide a playful experience to the user.
MOBILE SHELVING:
Allows the user to interact with it to open or close the book storage module
BATHROOM MODULE:
It unifies the sinks in a common space around which the cubicles for men, women and accessible bathrooms are organized.
STUDY & READING MODULE:
With the use of top rails, the blocks can be joined or separated, allowing users the ability to work in groups or individually.
PLANS & PHOTOGRAPHS EXHIBITION MODULE:
The panels fold into each other, freeing up the space that separates them, allowing different forms of observation.
STRUCTURE:
The steel structure is simple and is related to the buildings present on the campus.
SOLAR PANELS:
flat roofs are used to place solar panels.
STORAGE FOR THE “COMPLETE MIES COLLECTION”:
The storage has shelves and special furniture to expose plans and photographs. 324 M2.
SHELVING FOR THE OPEN COLLECTION:
A point accompanied by a versatile furniture. 768 M2.
COPY ROOM:
Close to the administration and research spaces. 40 M2.
ADMINISTRATION:
A multifunctional and versatile coworking. 81 M2.
READING & STUDY STATIONS:
Reading points that allow different spatial configurations. GROUP WORK INDIVIDUAL WORK: 324 M2.
RESEARCH STATIONS:
An adapted space with greater privacy for users. 121 M2.
PUBLIC TOILETS:
The bathrooms are made up of individual cubicles with a common space, each module has its own bathroom system. 53 M2.
AUDITORIUM:
A multifunctional space with 64 seats that has folding screens. 240 M2.

A new place made to provide the campus with a point meeting, accompanied by the preexisting flora and a water mirrow. 1.507 M2.
