THE IDEA? – KEEPIN’ IT SIMPLE!
WHILE WORKING ON THE DESIGN THE
MEMORABLE QUOTE «LESS IS MORE» CAME TO
MY MIND MORE OFTEN THAN I WOULD’VE
ADMIT. THE MEANING BEHIND IT IS SIMPLE AS
STRONG – EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED FOR MY
DESIGN IDEA. AFTER SKETCHING FOR A WHILE IT
WAS PRETTY CLEAR : STRONG AND IDEPENDENT
MATERIALS WOULD BE CHOOSEN SUCH A BARE
CONCRETE AND BLACK STEEL. WOODEN DETAILS
AND INDIRECT LIGHTNING WOULD SIMPLY
PURIFY THE DESIGN.
THE AUDITORIUM WILL GIVE ENOUGH SPACE
FOR STUDENTS TO LISTEN TO LECTURES;
LEARNING ABOUT MIES AND HIS WORK AND
OF COURSE TO LEARN EVERYTHING THEY NEED
TO KNOW ABOUT ARCHITECTURE ITSELF. SIMPLE
CONNECTIONS SUCH AS BETWEEN ARCHIVE
AND AUDITORIUM MAKES ACCESS AND
PRESENTING MIES WORKS SIMPLER THAN EVER.
VALUABLE WORKS WILL BE TRANSPORTED SAFELY
WITHIN THE WALLS OF THE LIBRARY AND ARE
EASY TO PRESENT OR DISCUSS WHILE LECTURE.
THE FLOOR PLAN KEEPS IT SIMPLE: THE ENTRY LEADS YOU DIRECTLY
TO AN SUPERVISED ACCESS TO THE COMPLETE MIES COLLECTION.
IT INCLUDES LOTS OF ITEMS, DRAWINGS (SUCH AS SKETCHES,
FLOOR PLANS AND MANY MORE) AND ALSO HOLDS LETTERS,
PHOTOGRAPHS AND MANY MORE. THE BASEMENT PART OF THE
COMPLETE COLLECTION PROTECTS THE VALUABLE WORK OF MIES
CAN DER ROHE AND PREVENTS IT FROM DIRECT SUNLIGHT.
THINKING ABOUT THE BARCELONA PAVILION OR ANY OTHER
PROJECTS OF MIES VAN DER ROHE, THERE IS ONE SIGNIFICANT
THING THAT COMES TO OUR MINDS: MATERIALS. MIES WAY OF
INSCENATING MATERIALS IS A SPECIAL WAY TO CHARACTERIZE A
BUILDING. WHEN ENTERING THE LIBRARY, EVERY VISITOR SHOULD
BE STUNNED BY THE MATERIALS THAT SURROUND THEM.
