The idea of the New Campus Bauhaus born after a study process on Bauhaus building by Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus Museum by Addenda Architects, that represent the most importants building of Dessau city. The old Bauhaus building is generated by functional blocks that form a double “L” building, while the Bauhaus Museum by a simple block that work like a “box in the box” totally glazed. So, starting from composition scheme of the existing buildings we arrived to the composition of the New Campus Bauhaus through the juxtaposition and fusion of two “L” volumes that forms a rectangular shapes, simple and regular. After an subtraction and addition process we designed a courtyard building that opens with a big overhang in the flows corner (at the intersection of Elisabethstraße and Bittersfield Street) as welcome inside a new community and at the same way it want opens to outside in a continous exchange of point of view between students and other people. The concept starts from a 20 m x 20 m grid which generate the structural and distributive scheme of all the spaces. Large classe and workshops offer the possibility of creating flexible spaces according to the needs of students. The big exhibition space is double height surrounded by a footbridge that allows a view from above. Characteristic element of the building is the exclusive use of the ramps, wich surrounding the building connecting all floors, both inside and outside, thus allowing anyone to reach the spaces without distinctions of motor skills. Finally the building leaves most of the project site free, using it as an urban park and outdoor working space.
