Let’s make it ethical, sustainable, cozy, and fun!

Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, the teaching and learning process in academic environments has rapidly changed and adapted into a new, almost fictional-looking reality, where technology is being used to fulfill every aspect of our everyday life. From working and studying to socializing and entertainment, our lives have switched to a full-time online mode, making it almost terrifying to think of a day without a laptop, a phone, or WiFi.

Within the program of the New Bauhaus Campus it is attempted to identify and reinterpret the need of today’s students as reflected on society, appreciating the presence of technology as an inseparable element in studying, but also integrating ethics within the courses, empowering teamwork and bonding among the students, so that anyone can contribute to the realization of a project. Students are always free to decide on the courses they intend to attend, according to their interests from a range of theoretical, practical, and technological programs, and the relationship between the attendants of the classes and the attendees should not be easily distinguished, if not be absent at all.

According to that, the building and its surroundings are designed to adapt to today’s needs, promoting sustainability through design and accessibility to all, regardless of social or economical status and age. Functionality and the element of nature are also two key elements in the design and for that reason, the building is designed as a continuous, peripheral line to the plot that brings all uses under one shell and unifies them into one entity. All spaces apply to the flexibility of the program and one is integrating to another, creating open, multifunctional spaces that allow students to swift from classes, to libraries, to chilling areas, and back to workshops or outdoor activities as needed each time.

Nature is given the needed space to integrate with the building and the students, making its presence loud in every space of the program and a connection to the nearby building is designed as an extension of the roof’s promenade, to provide extra free space and new use to the existing building. The entire synthesis, from the ground to the roof and the neighborhood becomes one entity, the placing of the masses is designed including strategic bioclimatic elements and the main used material is CLT, due to its ecological performance and coziness.
