Bauhaus is not a school or university, but a way to perceive, dialogue and propose ideas in search of innovative solutions related to the human species, art, design, urbanism and architecture. We need to ask and understand what is the purpose of an architect in a world capable of self-manage. Reconstruct our thinking in relation to what we think we already know and reassess the darkness and purposes of our modern world, seeking new solutions. Ask ourselves if we are following the path of progress in a positive and promising way.
And with these questions we arrive at the campus and we see a blurred build like the blurred ideias that are in our mind. We are invited to descend, and as we do it, we accept our ignorance and our fears, we free ourself of preconceptions and go into the unknown to face something new, something yet to be discovery.
The project is divided into three buildings that searches for an understanding of its surrounding and it’s landscape. They are connected with a walkway and a tunnel. Both create a change of perception while taking you to another building with another purpose.
The first block, the educational one, which is covered in its fog of knowledge and metallic structure, opens itself around a central courtyard with classrooms, library, workshops and cafe. These spaces communicate through walkways in a wide space where exhibitions and knowledge exchanges take place; where the classes are dispersed to become one, like a single human movement for the benefit of progress. A space and a body, a boiling interior, a school in the name of humanity.
The second block, the dormitory, takes students to rest and interaction is uncommitted. It holds 40 students in shared rooms plus 12 visitors or guests in private rooms. There are common living areas in each of the 3 floors, the ground floor being a larger area for interaction, study and connection with the exterior, and that of the upper floors with living and kitchen. This block, as well as the educational, has an opaque facade, which distributes the western light in a void that connects the pavements and promotes circulation between them.
Finally we have the auditorium, a metallic reinterpretation of Shakespearean theater, where art, body and technology interact without hierarchies, without distinction. A space of discovery of your own being, and artistic corporal expression. The space doesn’t have a defined layout, and is surrounded with balconies where everyone can watch shows in an uncommitted way. A theater of pure expression.
