Design Considerations
- All arts came together to re-imagine the material world
- Craftsmanship would reclaim its leading position in the production process
- Artists would find a way to imprint their soul and essence into rational, useful and beautiful objects.
Besides these considerations, the main idea was to design a building respecting the context and climate. Since rain falls from March to August, and the bi-annual exams in Germany are held in September and March, so the exhibition space is considered in both indoor and outdoor spaces, here the snowfall (Dec to Feb) was also in consideration. So that the authority can arrange the exhibitions in the outdoor space freely which will invite people more and also they’ll get interested in Art and Architecture. Also, pedestrian access is encouraged to make the space Carbon-free where everyone can enter into the campus under the same shade, then go through the central courtyard to get the final outcome of Bauhaus… in the Exhibition space.
Not only a defined auditorium but also there’s an informal Amphitheatre to engage the neighbourhood more to the campus to give them the feeling that this is their own place. The workshops on the ground floor placed in the north to get the indirect light and the classrooms are in the south since they need the natural light to study.
The windows are designed carefully to welcome the lights and air from north and south through the huge windows where the slit windows in the west help to reduce the heat. And the grand plaza in the entry from the node is free for all to make ‘Graffiti’ which is very much fond of them, found in many walls of various buildings around the site.
