“THE GOAL OF ANY CREATIVE WORK IS TO GIVE FORM TO THE SPACE” – WALTER GROPIUS
THE MAIN IDEA OF THE PROJECT WAS TO CREATE A NEW SCHOOL CAMPUS INSPIRED BY BAUHAUS THOUGHT. THE SHAPE OF BUILDING WAS BASED ON ONE OF THE BAUHAUS GRAPHICS WHICH WAS PROCESSED INTO A 3D MODEL. THE CAMPUS CONSISTS OF THREE PARTS: THE MAIN PART OF THE SCHOOL CONNECTED BY A CONNECTOR TO THE EXHIBITION PART WITH WORKSHOPS AND DORMITORY. THE BUILDING IS CHARACTERIZED BY A LACK OF SYMMETRY, A CLEAR DIVISION OF FUNCTIONS IN THE MASS, A CONNECTING ELEMENT BETWEEN THE VARIOUS FUNCTIONS. THE BUILDING HAS NUMEROUS GLAZINGS AND OPEN STUDIOS. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BUILDING CONSISTS OF STEEL PILLARS AND A GRATING IN THE CONNECTOR. ONLY THREE MATERIALS WERE USED IN THE FACADE, REFERRING TO THE THREE PRIMARY COLORS OF THE MAIN BAUHAUS THOUGHT: BLUE-GLASS, RED-COLORED CONCRETE, YELLOW-WOOD.
THE CONNECTOR CONNECTS THE SCHOOL AND RESIDENTIAL PART WITH THE EXHIBITION AND WORKSHOP PART. IT IS LOCATED ON LEVEL +1 AND LEADS DIRECTLY TO THE LARGEST EXHIBITION HALL, WHICH IS TWO STORIES HIGH. IT HAS A MEZZANINE FLOOR, WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO VIEW EXHIBITIONS OF LARGE-FORMAT PAINTINGS OR SCULPTURES FROM ABOVE AND IS ALSO USED FOR MULTIMEDIA EXHIBITIONS. THE WORKSHOP CONSISTS OF A TECHNICAL PART ON LEVEL -1 AND AN ARTISTIC PART ON THE FIRST FLOOR. ON LEVEL +1 THERE IS A COMPUTER ROOM USED FOR 3D OBJECT MODELLING. THERE IS ALSO AN EXTERNAL STAIRCASE LEADING TO THE WORKSHOP PART LOCATED UNDER THE GROUND FLOOR THANKS TO WHICH THEY HAVE GAINED ADDITIONAL OPEN SPACE IN FRONT AND SUNLIGHT ILLUMINATION. IN THE BREAK BETWEEN CLASSES COULD REST ON IT OR USE THE GREEN ROOF ON LEVEL +1.
A NARROW PASSAGEWAY BETWEEN THE BUILDINGS LEADS TO THE INTERIOR EXHIBITION AREA WHICH IS BACKED BY A WALL SEPARATING THE RAILROAD TRACKS FROM THE CAMPUS. IT IS AN ACOUSTIC SCREEN AS WELL AS FUTURE SOLUTION COULD BE PLANTING GREENERY ON IT. IT IS AN ACOUSTIC SCREEN AS WELL AS A FUTURE SOLUTION COULD BE PLANTING GREENERY ON IT AND CREATING OPENINGS IN IT – SEATS FOR SPENDING FREE TIME RESTING OR STUDYING. THE RESIDENTIAL PART OF THE CAMPUS IS LOCATED IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE BUILDING ON A CIRCULAR PLAN THREE STORIES HIGH. THE ROOMS CAN BE ARRANGED IN ANY WAY FROM APARTMENTS WITH KITCHEN ANNEXES TO ROOMS FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE AND EVEN A STUDIO ROOM WITH ITS OWN WORKSHOP THANKS TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE GLAZED AND HAVE ACCESS TO SUNLIGHT. THE APARTMENTS ARE SUITABLE FOR COUPLES, DISABLED PEOPLE AND EVEN YOUNG FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN. THE ROOMS CAN BE DIVIDED THANKS TO THE SYSTEM OF LIGHT MOBILE WALLS.
MOVABLE WALLS ARE ALSO LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM AND CLASSROOMS, SO COULD DIVIDE THE ROOM INTO SMALLER ONES DEPENDING ON NEEDS AND CONDUCT SEVERAL CLASSES IN ONE PLACE AT THE SAME TIME FOR SEVERAL GROUPS. THE OVERHANG ABOVE THE MAIN ENTRANCE IS COVERED WITH A REFLECTIVE SURFACE LIKE A MIRROR. AN AUDITORIUM IS LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR AND PARTLY UNDERGROUND AS IT HAS AN AMPHITHEATRICAL LAYOUT. ON LEVEL +1 THERE IS ALSO A COMMUNAL KITCHEN WITH A CANTEEN AND A LIBRARY FOR STUDENTS. ON LEVEL +2 THERE IS A COMMON RELAXATION AREA AND A PLAYROOM. THERE IS ALSO A STUDY ROOM, WHICH CONTAINS ROOMS – CAPSULES DESIGNED FOR E-LEARNING OR STUDYING COMPLETELY SOUNDPROOFED. THEY ARE A RESPONSE TO THE NEED FOR DISTANCE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.
